Liberia’s President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has said Africans need to conserve their natural resources, if they must achieve their development agenda under the six pillars of the Common African Position (CAP) by 2030.The Liberian leader emphasized the need for Africans to preserve and manage their natural resources for the benefit of their peoples.

Sirleaf made the statement Monday at the national launch of the Common African Position (CAP), on post 2015 Development Agenda in the capital Monrovia.

The Liberian leader also called for peace and security, noting that the entire African continent need to be peaceful, stable and secure, if they will be able to compete and achieve the same level of development as other regions of the world.

She said the launch of the Common African Position is a historic development not only for Liberia but the entire Africa because it is the first time that all African leaders have agreed on one common agenda with one voice, although there will be recognition of local specificities in the formulation of national priorities.

The new task of the High Level Committee of the CAP, which comprises10 heads of state that is being chaired by Liberia, is to negotiate with other regions of the world to ensure that Africa’s priorities feed into the global development agenda and the United Nations Post 2015 global development agenda.
